How it works
MyLocalSolicitors.co.uk is free for you. Three steps from a problem to a solicitor you chose yourself, with no sales calls.
Search by area of law and place
Choose what you need, such as conveyancing or a will, and type your town or postcode. Firms are ranked by verified client reviews, then distance. No one pays to rank higher; featured listings are paid and shown in their own labelled block above that list. When a town has more than three, they take turns in that block day by day, and on other days sit in the list where their reviews place them. We are still adding firms from the SRA register, so some towns have none yet.
Check the profile
Every firm is matched to the SRA register before it goes live. A fee table, services and opening hours appear once the firm adds them; reviews appear once verified clients leave them.
Contact one firm
Call the firm, or send one enquiry if its profile offers that. An enquiry goes to that firm and to no other firm. We never sell your details.
What we promise
No paid placement in the ranked list
Order is verified reviews, then distance. A featured listing buys a share of a slot that is labelled as featured, above that list; it never changes the organic order. A Featured firm not in today's slot sits in the list where its reviews place it.
Register-checked
Every listing is matched to the SRA register before it goes live, and the profile names the register so you can confirm the firm's current status yourself.
Verified reviews only
We confirm with the firm that the reviewer was a client, without showing them the review first. Firms can reply but never edit or remove.
Your details stay yours
An enquiry goes to the one firm you chose and to no other firm. No lead selling, no follow-up calls from strangers.
Questions about using the directory
Why is a firm I know not listed?
We add firms from the SRA register town by town, so some are not here yet. A firm can ask to be added by email, and it goes live once it is matched to the register.
Does a featured listing mean a firm is better?
No. Featured is a paid slot, labelled as featured and shown above the ranked list. It says nothing about quality, and the ranked list underneath is ordered the same way for every firm: verified client review score, then distance from the town centre.
Who can see my enquiry?
The one firm you send it to, and no other firm. We keep a record copy for delivery checks and to deal with abuse, as our privacy notice explains. We do not pass it to other firms, put it into a lead auction or use it for marketing calls.
Is a listing a recommendation?
No. A listing means the firm is matched to the SRA register and does the work it lists. It is not legal advice and says nothing about the outcome of any case. Read the profile, ask questions and choose for yourself.
Before you instruct a solicitor
Check the firm on the Solicitors Regulation Authority’s own register before you instruct it. Ask for the likely cost in writing at the start. For some work, such as residential conveyancing and uncontested probate, the SRA requires firms to publish their prices on their websites. Our guide how much conveyancing costs shows what goes into a quote.
When you instruct a firm, it should tell you in writing how it will charge and how to complain. If you are unhappy with the service, complain to the firm first and give it eight weeks to reply. After that, the Legal Ombudsman can look at it, normally within six months of the firm’s final response. Concerns about a solicitor’s honesty or conduct, rather than the service, go to the SRA.
